Workshop 1: Social Media – The Basics
Saturday 2 April, 15:05 -16:20 (Room: MR290)
The term “social media” refers to a simple notion enhanced by a powerful set of technologies: Building communities based on personal relationships and common interests, and sharing things with them. But while setting up a Facebook page or a Twitter feed can be pretty easy, understanding the full scope and implications of these tools can be much more challenging.
In this workshop, we will discuss the basics of social media and a few of the ways in which it is being used for research, communications and outreach, and advocacy. And after some discussion, we will walk through an example or two to illustrate the potential benefits (and risks!) of deploying social media in your organization.
Faciliator: Marshall Sitten, President of the Geneva Forum on Social Change and General Partner of Flashing12 Communications
